Steering System (SIS) Italjet’s patented hub centre steering system (SIS) completely separates the suspension and braking forces from the steering system. The front wheel is attached to the chassis by a swinging arm which operates on a hydro-pneumatic monoshock via a racing car-style torsion bar. The swinging arm turns through a very small arc so the wheelbase remains almost constant. Steering forces from the handlebars are transferred to the wheel by lightweight articulated rods acting on a steering arm. With the SIS system, the distance between the front and rear swinging arm mountings is unusually short allowing Italjet’s engineers to build an exceptionally rigid chassis. The advantages of SIS over motorcycle-type telescopic forks or classic scooter-type trailing link systems are apparent the moment you take a Formula or a Dragster through a bend. Front end dive under braking is virtually eliminated and it is possible to brake hard mid-corner without affecting the chosen line. |
