Whilst the
British have recently rediscovered small wheel scooters, this is what they're riding
Milan, Turin and Rome. The Torpedo T50 features many of the 'future-retro' styling
influences of the Velocifero; it's all sexy, softly rounded curves with 60's style hooded
lights and mudguard trim. But the most obvious features are the 16" classic chromed
spoke wheels which give the bike a look somewhere between a scooter and a small motorbike.
Suspension is by motorcycle-type telescopic forks at the front and
by monoshock via a single-sided swinging arm at the rear. The larger wheels and
well-damped suspension allow the Torpedo to soak up potholed city streets with ease.
Braking is by 220mm hydraulic disc at the front and a classic
style 120mm drum brake at the rear. The Torpedo's 50cc, forced air-cooled engine drives
through centrifugal automatic transmission.
Its light weight makes it nippy through town and its top speed of 45mph keeps
the rider comfortably ahead of most city traffic.
Other features include electric starting, CDI electronic ignition, automatic
lubrication, under-seat helmet storage and luggage space, glove box, a main stand that can
be used from either side of the bike, full instrumentation, tell-tale warning lights for
all main functions and a 150 cm Xena cable lock. |
