Despite
being specified to a price that is competitive with the more mundane offerings of its
Italian, French and Japanese competitors, the F50A still bristles with Italjet's
innovative high-tech engineering.
A high-revving 50cc forced air-cooled motor drives through centrifugal automatic
transmission. Without the weight of a liquid-cooling system, the 78kg F50A accelerates
rapidly to a top speed of 45mph whilst fuel consumption is a miserly 90mpg. The front end
employs Italjet's independent steering system (SIS) acting on a monoshock mounted
vertically inside the legshield.

Other features include electric starting, automatic lubrication, CDI electronic ignition,
race-style fuel filler, under seat helmet storage and luggage space and a 150cm Xena cable
lock. |
Rear
suspension is also by monoshock from a single-sided swinging transmission case.
The result is a remarkably stable ride that feels more like a larger motorbike than a
lightweight sports scooter.
The F50A rides on the same classic Italian five spoke cast alloy wheels as the F125LC and
F50LC.
The braking system comprises a 175mm hydraulic disc at the front with a 120mm drum brake
at the rear.
This system gives a positive feel and predictable, progressive braking. |
