| The Formula F50LC is a
development of the paddock bikes used by Formula 1 drivers Jacques Villeneuve, Damon Hill
and David Coulthard as well as by twice World Superbike Champion Carl Fogarty. Perfect for those who want the high-tech engineering of the
Formula F125LC but need to ride a 50cc machine on a full car licence, the F50LC has a new
liquid-cooled motor that, particularly in race tune, is capable of producing far more
power than a conventional air-cooled engine.
The motors power and torque
characteristics give the F50LC brisk acceleration and a top speed of 47mph. (In full race
tune it is capable of well over 70mph.) Drive is by centrifugal automatic transmission
with the main controls being the throttle and the brake levers.
The front end employs
Italjets patented SIS system acting on a vertically mounted monoshock.
Rear suspension is also by
monoshock from a single-sided swinging arm. A racing benefit of this set-up are that both
wheels can be rapidly removed for changing to track tyres.
Thanks to Italjets
independent steering system (SIS), the F50LCs ride is exceptionally smooth for a
lightweight sports scooter. Steering is quick and precise and the handling is stable even
over fast bumps, potholes and manhole covers. Brakes are full specification 175mm
hydraulic discs front and rear.
Other features include electric
starting, CDI electronic ignition, under-seat lockable under-seat storage for a full face
helmet, glove box, full instrumentation, tell-tale warning lights for all main functions
and a 150cm Xena cable lock. |
